How often should I wash my bedding?

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I WASH MY BEDDING?

Ever wondered how often you should wash your bedding? Here are a few tips to help you decide.

On average, we spend around 56 to 60 hours in our beds each week. So, it’s important to create a comfortable, fresh, and clean space where you can rest and recharge—after all, a good night’s sleep helps you live your days to the fullest.

Here are some of the things that can build up on your sheets:

    • Dead skin cells – We shed about 35,000 skin cells every minute, often without noticing.
    • Dust mites – Tiny microorganisms that are too small to see but thrive in bedding.
    • Pet hair – If your dog sleeps in your bed, you may find fur in your sheets.
    • Sweat – Especially during warmer months, sweat can accumulate in your bedding.

If you suffer from allergies or asthma, it is highly recommended that you wash your sheets once a week. To help ease your symptoms, opt for eco-friendly, organic laundry detergents or even homemade washing powder.

Washing your bedding frequently might sound like a lot of work, but there’s an easy solution: use a flat sheet between yourself and your duvet or blanket. This way, you only need to wash your top sheet, pillowcases, and fitted sheet, while you can wash your duvet cover or blanket once a month. This reduces the amount of laundry you do, saving both water and energy—and you’ll still

enjoy fresh bedding in no time.

So, while you should ideally wash your sheets once a week, here’s a general guideline for other bedding items, based on recommendations from the Sleep Foundation:

  • Pillowcases – Once a week
  • Duvet covers – Every 2 weeks to 1 month
  • Comforters – Every 2-3 months
  • Blankets – Every 2-3 months
  • Pillows – Every 4-6 months (if washable)
  • Mattress – Vacuum every 6 months

Sleep well and enjoy your fresh, clean bedding!
